Re: Waste Not Want Not Wednesday

Hi folks,

I just wanted to give you a heads up on what's happening with WNWNW. Last week I was totally distracted by being home for Canadian Thanksgiving for the first time in 3 years, and blogging totally fell to the wayside.

This week, on the other hand, I discovered that my InLinkz account (what I use to run the link party), will expire tomorrow

For those of you that don't know, InLinkz costs $20US per year. It's not a lot, but at present my income from the blog is a few pennies above $0 per year. Sadly, that "Poor" in "Poor and Gluten Free" ain't just for kicks ;)

And while I love seeing what people have been up to every week, it is also time consuming to run a link party. Lately, I haven't been visiting everyone who links up, and I feel bad about that. I prefer to have the time to come by, pin your posts, and tell you how awesome your cooking looks.

Soooo.... I'm currently reassessing whether or not WNWNW is a practical expense - both financially and time-wise. In the meantime, WNWNW will be on hiatus. If I find that my recently added Google ads pick up, or book sales increase, I'll probably reconsider. Blogging is a labour of love, but right now it just doesn't make sense for me to put time and money into something that doesn't translate into a practical return of some sort.

I will, of course, continue to post recipe and articles and intend to visit you all at your blog homes and social media as much as I can regardless!

Thanks for your support and understanding :)
-Danielle

  1. Hi Danielle, thanks for the update and for hosting WNWNW thus far! Sorry to see it go, but I also completely understand. As a blogger, I'm actually quite curious about the return (traffic, ad revenue, community growth and building, etc.) of these link-ups. I love visiting them and exchanging recipes with others, but I'm curious about whether they pay off for those hosting them in any meaningful way because I realize it must take a lot of effort to manage them. So thanks for sharing your experience with it so far. If you've got anything else to share on the subject, I'm all ears ;)

    1. Well that's all a big old can o' worms that I'm still struggling with!

I think that link parties can be great! *IF* you either already have a large following of other bloggers, or you're willing and able to put the time in to building a community of people to link up. I had no idea when I first started this how much time it would end up being, and as your community grows, so does the time required (especially if you plan to visit everyone who shares)

Since you asked, though, and since I've been ruminating on this myself, I'm going to slap together a post on this over the next couple of days. I think it might help me to sort my thoughts out.

I might be open to possibly co-hosting with other bloggers, as I do like "seeing" people every week ;)

  2. Hi Danielle,
I love all of the wonderful and valuable content on your blog. You have contributed so much to our understanding of gluten free meal preparation. I will continue to hop by and see what you are up to, of course. Feel free to party with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party and the Plant-Based Potluck Party when you have time. All the best, Deborah
