Well I meant to post this meal plan back on Saturday, but we were hit with a massive windstorm that knocked out our power for a whole 33 hours (as well as knocking down a number of local trees)!! Luckily we had dinner plans already for both Saturday and Sunday night with people who still had power, so we didn't have to resort to begging our neighbours to use their BBQs ;) It's amazing how a power outage / emergency will bring a community together. We spoke with neighbours we haven't even seen in the whole year we've been living here.
So that was the upside of our power outage! The other upside, in a way, is that we realized we're semi-prepared for an emergency (we had candles and flashlights and fresh, bottled water on hand), but that we could do better.
In the next couple of weeks we've decided to start putting together an emergency supply, as well as a "bugout bag" - which is a bag we can grab if we ever have to leave our place in a hurry.
Once we're all ready with that, I'll post it here for all of you. As our climate is rapidly changing and these sorts of emergencies happen more often, it's important to have an action plan and supplies, so stay tuned ;)
But this week, we have power and I'm working on creatively using up leftovers to minimize my cooking times.
