Waste Not Want Not Wednesday #3

Waste Not Want Not Wednesday #3

The Waste Not Want Not Wednesday link-up party is inspired by World Food Day (Oct. 16), and recent articles such as this one that show between 40-51% of food in Canada and America ends up in the garbage.  Over-consumption, lack of knowledge, low cost and over purchasing are common causes of food waste in North America.

This unsustainable over-consumption extends to so many aspects of our lives.  We buy more cars, more clothes, more furniture, more stuff than our grandparents and great grandparents.  This over-consumption and waste is bad for our environment, our health, global peace, world hunger and so on and so forth.

So perhaps if we all share our tips for consuming a little less, cooking more responsibly and frugally, and living eco-friendly, we can each take a small part in making our world a little more sustainable and lighten the burden on future generations.

And besides, who couldn't save a little bit of money anyway?

So what kinds of posts are allowed?

1)  Recipes!  But only gluten free, healthy ones please.  This means different things for different people, but please, no recipes with pre-made boxed flour mixes or mass amounts of white or brown sugar (the less sugar the better please!).

2) Articles about food, sustainability, living healthy and frugal, being green and things in keeping with this.

3)  DIY tutorials for using up odds and ends around the house in a frugal fashion.

* Share up to 3 posts per week.

What are the rules?

1) Post a link on your blog post to back here, or copy and paste the code from the box under the Waste Not Want Not Button on the side bar into the HTML of your post.  Simple linky etiquette, but also so people can find these tips and recipes.

2) Leave a comment and introduce yourself.  What's your blog and/or your post about?  Is your recipe GF, EF, NF, DF, SF, V (i.e. gluten free, egg free, nut free, dairy free, sugar free, Vegan) Let me and the other readers get to know you :)

3) Consider telling people you shared here on FB, Twitter or elsewhere and spread the love around, so more people can find this link-up.

4) Don't have a blog? No worries! Share your tips or recipes in the comments section.

5) Visit some of the other posts here and let them know you found them here, comment on their scrumptiousness/brilliancy/helpfulness/frugality and let them know you found them here and hope for a similar visit.

6) Follow the Poor and Gluten Free blog on Google+, Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter to stay up to date on happenings here (ok, not a rule, just a little shameless self-promotion).

Each week I'll post the entries on my Waste Not Want Not Pinterest board so be sure to check in there!

  1. Thanks for hosting! This week I shared my recipe for my Personal Pumpkin Pie, a delicious grain-free and sugar-free dessert for one, made in the microwave in just a few minutes.

  2. I shared an easy tip about making vinaigrette using jam for a quick, tasty salad dressing.

  3. So, first I posted something with gluten (I apologize) so I removed it and here is my replacement. A very tasty breakfast and gluten free. :)

    Thanks for hosting!

  4. Thanks for respecting the linky rules, Linda! I appreciate it :) The quiche looks fantastic, as does everything so far this week.

  5. Well, I wrote a long comment introducing myself but the comment form crashed! :( It's my first time here and I entered two! I hope that's okay. One's a traditional Hungarian meal, the other is daily free self-sufficiency Kindle e-books that I spend a few hours a day finding and posting. They fit in really well with your numbers 2 and 3. For example, today has ones about rice farming and crocheting as well as canning, sustainable food, etc. Thank you so much for hosting this!

  6. Thanks for hosting and for letting me share my exfoliating honey mask and scrub! I've also linked up my black bean and hummus recipe. :)

New follower here, I've Liked you on FB and following on Twitter now too :)

  7. Hi Danielle! I am new to the blogging world and I am thrilled to share a recipe with you for the first time-my Caramel Apple Freezer Fudge. I have also linked up with you over at my blog Thanks for hosting this and helping spread great gluten free recipes!
    Stephanie :D

  8. Hi Danielle~ Thanks for the invite! I didn't realize you had this link up when I stopped by earlier...I'm SO glad you told me about it!!! I will be looking forward to this each week for sure! :)

This week I shared three posts: an easy thrift store shirt no-sew shirt refashion, a post about how/why I am chosing the path of preparedness/survivalist, and the most amazing DIY laundry soap recipe! I will be making it instead of buying the crazy expensive bottles from the store when I get married for sure even though it will take the two of us forever to use up 5 gallons of soap!

Thanks once again! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts as I am now following via GFC & email too!
