Chilled Pomegranate Syrup, Ginger, and Lemon Tea

It's been getting hot here in Vancouver, BC. And I'm a tea drinker. Hot tea + hot weather = a sleepy, head-achy Danielle.

I little while back I bought a bottle of pomegranate syrup (a.k.a. pomegranate molasses). I can't even recall what I bought it for, but I figured it was time to make use of it. Pomegranate syrup is a common ingredient in a lot of Middle Eastern dishes. It's only a couple of bucks a bottle and can be found in most supermarkets in the international section (or at a Middle Eastern or Persian grocery).

Pomegranate syrup is more bitter than sweet, but has a nice tang to it. Along with ginger, lemon, and green tea this is a super healthy and refreshing summer drink. It's also super easy to make a huge batch of it with minimal labour and time!

I didn't have a large enough drink container to hold all this tea, so I used two large old pickle jars :)  They do in a pinch if you don't happen to have a fancy beverage dispenser!

Ingredients for Pomegranate Syrup, Ginger, and Lemon Tea (makes 16 cups)

16 cups
4 bags green tea (I used decaf so I can drink this at night, too!)
2 lemons, halved
3-4 Tbsp freshly minced ginger
4 Tbsp pomegranate molasses / syrup
1/4 cup honey or sugar (or more, to taste)

Directions

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat, add tea bags, lemon halves, ginger, pomegranate molasses, and sweetener. Let steep until room temperature. Strain and chill.

  4. This sounds delicious! I love ice tea in the summer. I will definitely have to try this. Is pomegranate molasses easy to find? Or do you make it? Thanks!

    1. You can find it in any Middle Eastern, Persian, or Turkish market or corner store, but also in the international section of most major markets. I've never had a very difficult time finding it, even in Wisconsin! ;) Otherwise, you can order it online. Here are two brands I've used: Al Wadi and Cortas

      Hope that helps!
