Waste Not Want Not Wednesday - August 12, 2015

<a href=“http://www.poorandglutenfree.blogspot.com”><img src=“ https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-90wQDw8deJY/Vcfcmas4vRI/AAAAAAAAD7k/Cn07Q5CxOLU/s211-Ic42/WasteNotWantNotWednesday%252520button.jpg ”></a>

Welcome to the Waste Not Want Not Wednesday link party! WNWNW is a place to find (and link up) gluten free recipes, eco-friendly tips, and frugal DIY tutorials. This link-up party is inspired by World Food Day (Oct. 16), and studies such as this one that show that between 40-51% of food in Canada and America ends up in the garbage.  Over-consumption, lack of knowledge, low cost and over purchasing are common causes of food waste in North America. This unsustainable over-consumption extends to so many aspects of our lives.

So perhaps if we all share our tips for consuming a little less stuff in general, cooking more responsibly and frugally, and living eco-friendly, we can each take a small part in making our world a little more sustainable.

And besides, who couldn't save a little bit of $$$?

Here's a little rhyme for you all this week:

So as you can probably see
Waste Not Want Not Wednesday
Is back down to just me
Elise no longer has the time
But we'll still muddle along just fine

For now, anyway! I know the blogosphere gets a little slow in the summer as people are out off with family and friends, but I'm stationary for a while so I'll keep up with the schedule for those of you who are still around.

The only changes are the above WNWNW button, and the fact that it is now mandatory to have a backlink to this blog or blog post on the post you share.

Why?

Because lately there have been a higher than usual number of people sharing posts without back links. Not only does that make it difficult to find enough posts to feature, but it's simply common courtesy to link back and frankly I'm tired of always asking people to do so.

I don't like to be a nag... so I'm not going to ask anymore.

But visiting all the lovely posts here and sharing them on my social media accounts - while fun - is time-consuming and without link backs it's really a thankless job.

So let's see how that goes!! If you encounter any glitches, please let me know.

  2. Hi Danielle! Love your rhyme but still sorry that you're on your own. I don't blame you a bit for doing the mandatory back link. It's rude for people to not link back. This week I'm sharing Double Chocolate Zucchini Cookies.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks, Sandi, I feel bad doing it because I know it's a hassle for people, especially when I'm preaching to the choir!

  5. Hi, Danielle! Thankfully I religiously link back :). Normally I do this immediately after adding my link, however even though I linked back before adding to the hop this time, it still said that it didn't detect it. I copied and pasted the new button, and then clicked on it and made it a link, but it appears the program isn't recognizing it.

I do have a thought--do you think you could make your button into a link? Then all we have to do is copy and paste the button and it's already a link. That's how it works for me on blogger. I don't know if having to make it into a link myself is why it isn't recognizing....also, I thought you would prefer a button link to a mere text link, so that's what I did, but perhaps just a text link would work better.

Thank you for hosting! I always love checking out the other links. :)

    1. Hi Natalia, thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll have to figure out how to do that for next week! For some reason your link was just waiting for me to moderate it... *sigh* I'm rather inept with coding, etc, so sorry for the frustration! And thanks for always linking back :)

    2. Thanks for replying! The link was waiting for you to moderate because it didn't recognize that I'd linked back and the other option was to enter it anyway for you to moderate. You don't have to code to make the picture a link because there's an option in the buttons. (Highlight the picture, then click "link" in the buttons.) Hope it all irons itself out for you. :)

    3. Hi Natalia, yes, thanks! I think I've got it all sorted now... *fingers crossed*

  6. One of us has a problem and I have no idea which one. I linked up after adding your URL on the recipes, I was linking and for each of them, I was told I had not done that. I checked and clicked on the URL on my post and it brought me here. Can you spot what is wrong?

Thanks for the feature. Much appreciated.

    1. Sorry about that Chaya. I have no idea what was wrong, but your posts were waiting for me to moderate them and they're up now. I'll try to fix this all for next week!! Sorry for the nuisance and thanks for always linking back :)

  7. Ah ha! I think I've figured out the problem - with blogger blogs depending on what country you're in the website comes up differently (i.e. in Canada it ends in blogspot.ca whereas in the US it's .com, or in the UK .co.uk). This confuses the backlink coding, but I *think* I've fixed the coding to accommodate this... fingers crossed... sorry everyone, it's a learning curve!
