Yeowza it’s cold
this week! We had 5 minutes of snow flurries on Wednesday, and I decided it was finally
time to turn the heat on. As a consequence
and as is befitting the cold, this week’s meal planning features plenty of
soups and stews to warm my arthritic bones.
Also, I've finally gotten around to putting together a Meal Planning Page dedicated entirely to meal planning and cooking around local foods, so swing by and check it out for more meal planning resources.
Now let the meal planning begin!!
This past week I
had a ton of lovely fall root vegetables and I experimented a lot with making up new
recipes. For example, along with the Vegetable
Scrap Stew I posted earlier, I also made:
* another scrap
stew with apples, cabbage and chicken
* a ravioli
dough stuffed with roasted sweet potatoes and sautéed greens
* a roasted delicata
squash flatbread
* Sautéed turnip
greens
* Beet root
hummus
* Miniature
Pumpkin Pies
* Vegetable wontons
I’ve
photographed them all and hope to get around to posting them soon.
This week I’m
planning meals around the following farmers market finds:
* 2 bunches of organic kale *
1 bunch beets (with tops)
* ½ lb spray-free mixed greens * 1 large turnip
* 1 lb organic carrots * 1 head broccoli
* 2 small cucumbers * 2 bunches of parsnips
* 1 Festival squash

I need to get better about experimenting with soups. I hate to waste stuff from the CSA but often there isn't enough of any one veggie to make a dish that will serve our largish family.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, sometimes there's only 1 carrot and a couple of leaves of kale or something the day before we go grocery shopping, and that's when having beans, lentils, or some grains to toss into a big pot comes in handy ;) I'll be sharing another scrap stew this week also, if that helps!
